GREDO, in collaboration with Plan International, is implementing the ECHO-funded Education in Emergencies (EiE) project in Bardhere, a district in the Gedo region of Somalia that has been severely impacted by floods, conflict, and displacement. This situation has resulted in many internally displaced persons (IDPs), many of whom are children currently out of school. There is an urgent need to address their educational and protection needs.
To support these displaced children, GREDO is providing psychosocial support (PSS) and recreational activities alongside educational services, targeting 10 IDP schools and 6 public schools in Bardhere. To reach out-of-school children GREDO establishes 2 First Response Centers (FRC) and 9 Temporary Protection and Learning Centers (TPLC). Additionally, GREDO also rehabilitates 6 classrooms and constructs 32 gender-sensitive latrines.
The project also offers incentives and training for teachers, Community Education Committees (CECs), community representatives, and social workers. Furthermore, the project also provides non-food item (NFI) kits for separated children and dignity kits for adolescent girls, in addition to learning kits.
We aim to;
Establish Educational Facilities: Set up 2 FRCs and 9 TPLCs, providing safe spaces for learning and protection.
Classroom Rehabilitation and Infrastructure: Complete the rehabilitation of 6 classrooms and construct 32 gender-sensitive latrines, improving the learning environment.
Teacher Training: Traine teachers and community representatives, enhancing educational quality and community involvement.
Support for Vulnerable Children: Distribute NFI kits and dignity kits, addressing the specific needs of separated children and adolescent girls, thereby promoting their well-being and dignity.
Psychosocial Support: Provide PSS and recreational activities, helping to address mental health and social integration for displaced children.
This project aims to significantly improve educational access and protection for children affected by the ongoing crisis in Bardhere, Somalia.
