What Is GREDO Doing to Improve Education
Services in Somalia?

Education is a critical tool for breaking the cycle of poverty, yet in Somalia, countless children are denied access due to conflict, displacement, and underdeveloped infrastructure. Many communities in remote areas lack schools, trained teachers, and essential learning materials, making it difficult for children to receive the education they deserve.

GREDO is committed to improving education services by focusing on providing basic and quality education to vulnerable, out-ofschool children. In 2023, GREDO successfully enrolled 31,090 learners across various education pathways. The organization constructed 11 Temporary Learning Spaces (TLS) and rehabilitated
53 classrooms, providing much-needed infrastructure in
underserved areas. Additionally, GREDO supported 270 teachers with incentives and provided training to enhance their teaching skills.

GREDO’s education initiatives also focus on empowering communities through the formation of Community Education Committees (CECs) and promoting inclusivity by constructing child-friendlyand disability-accessible facilities.
Through these efforts, GREDO is making significant strides inensuring more Somali children have access to education and a brighter future.
