What Is GREDO Doing to Improve Nutrition Services in Somalia?
Somalia faces a severe nutrition crisis, with many communities, particularly children, suffering from acute malnutrition due to ongoing drought, conflict, and displacement. Globally, malnutrition remains a critical issue, but in Somalia, the impact is especially harsh, threatening the health and survival of vulnerable populations.
GREDO is actively addressing this crisis by providing comprehensive nutrition services aimed at preventing and treating malnutrition. The organization conducts widespread screening and treatment for acute malnutrition, focusing on children under five, pregnant and lactating women, and other at-risk groups. GREDO also promotes optimal infant and young child feeding practices to improve nutritional outcomes.
In addition to direct interventions, GREDO educates communities on proper nutrition practices and distributes essential nutritional supplements and therapeutic food to those in need. By integrating nutrition education with its emergency response efforts, GREDO ensures that communities are not only treated for malnutrition but are also equipped with the knowledge to prevent future nutritional deficiencies.
Through these targeted efforts, GREDO is making significant strides in reducing malnutrition and improving overall health in Somalia.
