Organizational Background
GREDO is an indigenous local NGO. Non-profit non-partial, non- political and voluntary organization based in Baidoa. To reach the most affected grass-root communities in Bay and Bakool regions and lower Shebelle effectively and efficiently, the necessity of local partnership in relief program appeared. Responding to the partnership need, a group of Somali intellectuals and well-wishers initiated in December 1992 a local non-governmental organization called Gargaar Relief and Development Organization (GREDO) the organization has implemented during these period different projects including relief and emergency programs and later improved into rehabilitation and developmental programs.
Job Summary
Vaccinator will work to contribute towards global coverage of protections against vaccine preventable diseases by participating in high quality vaccination programs. Vaccinator will work with health team to ensure there is an adequate supply of vaccines available and immunize children and adults with a variety of vaccines using different methods. Vaccinators will also work with the community and with other sectors to ensure maximum possible impact and integration of the project activities
Key Area of accountability:
Assist clinical staff to ensure timely provision and safe use of sufficient quantities of high-quality vaccine and vaccine equipment through:
Contributing to proper forecasting, storage, recording and monitoring
Complying with established rules, regulations and plans of action
Secure vaccines within required cold chain in accordance with guidelines
Ensure all used vaccination supplies are stored and disposed of per protocols
Safely provide immunizations to infants, children and adults, in accordance with guidelines, including during:
Static vaccination sessions in basic health units
Outreach activities in the field
Mass vaccination campaigns
Record and share relevant, up to date information in a timely manner including:
Maintaining accurate records to monitor coverage of target population
Maintain accurate EPI records
Recording and reporting measles cases
Regularly contributing to reports as required
Work closely with others to ensure collaboration and coordination, including:
Community health workers and other health staff to avoid missed opportunities for immunization including
Qualification and Experience
Qualified OPD/EPI Nurse
Vaccination, primary health care and EPI experience
Proven capacity in management and teamwork
Excellent communication skills and a willingness to be respectful, kind, sensitive and empathize with all beneficiaries and their careers
Demonstrable ability to write reports
Prepared to live and work in an uncertain security environment
Child Protection and safeguarding
The responsibilities of the post will require the post holder to have regular contact with children or young people and Gredo as an organization has a dignity of protecting and safeguarding children by giving awareness, protection reporting and taking actions.
